Event Announcement
Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School (SSWTES) is proud to announce that it will be hosting the Young Writers' Conference again this academic year. Principal Rochelle Ginsburg is extending an invitation to both the students at SSWTES and from surrounding schools.
Quote "The combination of inspiring keynote speakers, published authors, and noteworthy educators, all within the polished structure of a college conference, has proven, year after year, that students embrace being taken seriously and the opportunity to learn the skills that allow them to express themselves," explained Michelle Clark, conference coordinator for SSWTES. "We appreciate the support that we receive from our Stephen S. Wise community, which allows us to continue to host this event."
Keynote Speaker
Opening up the day's conference will be New York Times' best-selling author D.J. MacHale, author of the Pendragon-Journal of Adventure Through Time and Space, a series of seven novels, thus far. (Ten are planned.) Along with being a novelist, MacHale is also a writer, director, producer and creator of several popular television shows and movies. His credits include Ghostwriter (ABC/PBS), Are You Afraid of the Dark? (Nickelodeon), Tower of Terror (for ABC's Wonderful World of Disney), and Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective (HBO). Conference
After the keynote address, the students will attend three different workshops that they selected and registered for online. The students have a wide variety of sessions to chose from; ranging from comic book, to sports, to screen, to play-writing. All are led by accomplished authors and educators and designed to create an environment where the joy of writing and self-expression is celebrated.
Community
The Young Writers' Conference, hosted by Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School, is a community event involving students from a number of public and private schools in the Los Angeles area. With the generosity of the participants and members of the community, several scholarships will be awarded to deserving students so that they may have the chance to partake in this unique writing experience.

About Young Writers' Conference
In 1998, the National Writing Commission on Writing in America's Schools issued a call to launch a writing revolution in our country's schools; a call that was answered with the foundation of the Young Writers' Conference (YWC) in the Los Angeles area. Now celebrating its tenth year, YWC continues to bring their program, which is organized like a university conference, to elementary and middle school students throughout the Los Angeles region. Pairing students with professional writers from a wide variety of disciplines, the students participate in a series of workshops designed to fulfill the mission of improving their writing skills by first instilling a passion for writing.
