Principal, Jaqueline O'Sullivan
is delighted that the school's Title 1 status gives them the opportunity to host the day-long conference. "Our mission to to provide exciting, engaging, academic opportunities," explains O'Sullivan. "This will be our student's first exposure to a professional conference and they are really looking forward to it. We teach the fundamentals of writing, of course, but these workships are critical in teaching children how to find their 'voice.' Writing is an important tool for self-expression and our students will really enjoy all the different sessions."
Workshops
Students will attend four sessions, for which they have pre-registered on-line. Workshops range from Craig Machen's, who recently told his screenplay Buff to Dreamworks Pictures, workshop titled "Aliens Have Feelings Too, How to Turn a Problem into a Story," to Britton Karl's workshop, "How to Make Your Friends Laugh in One Easy Lesson", to Bob Holtzman's, sports writer for the Daily Breeze, popular session, "Sports Writing." |

About Young Writers' Conference
In 1998, the National Writing Commission on Writing in America's Schools issued a call to launch a writing revolution in our country's schools; a call that was answered with the foundation of the Young Writers' Conference (YWC) in the Los Angeles area. Now in its ninth year, YWC continues to bring their program, which is organized like a university conference, to elementary and middle school students throughout the Los Angeles region. Pairing students with professional writers from a wide variety of disciplines, the students participate in a series of workshops designed to fulfill the mission of improving their writing skills by first instilling a passion for writing.
